Incomplete manuscript (from a letter?), [n.d.].

Relating a dream in which both John Gay and Alexander Pope appear. This MS., formerly catalogued as in the hand of John Gay, is assigned to Fortescue on the basis of tentative conclusions of Prof. G. Sherburn (see his letters in MA. folder s.v. Gay, John); and on the basis of the article, "A prose fragment wrongly attributed to Gay and Pope," by John Butt, "Notes and Queries", Jan. 1955, p. 23-5. Printed [very inaccurately] by A.L. McLeod, "Pope and Gay. Two overlooked manuscripts," "Notes and Queries," August, 1953, p. 335-7, who mistakenly attributes the MS. to Alexander Pope.
